Two antique French game pieces with bonus Sondheim Collection auction souvenir program

$110.00

Shipping to United States: $15.00

We are offering two single game pieces in individual brass and glass frames. The photos show the front and back of the game pieces. Almost 100 pieces came jumbled together in a box without any instructions or playing board etc. Judging from the content of the lithographed fronts and printed backs, the game appears to have been a French 19th century precursor to Trivial Pursuit and the old TV game show Concentration. The questions have to do with things and people and the snippets of images appear to cover the same kinds of subject matter. You will receive the pieces with the subjects and questions shown. To give the pieces their appropriate presentation, each has been mounted in a 2-sided brass-edged glass frame with a hanging hoop at the top. It may be a challenge to see what the piece of a larger image represents. They would make attractive decorations in various situations and certainly would be unique Christmas tree ornaments. Each has a history lesson and story to tell. The pieces show some wear and the frames are hand made and so there is variation among the frames and the closure fit of the frame can be uneven. As a bonus I am including a copy of the program from the June 18, 2024 auction. It is appropriately in the form of a Playbill and shares details of Sondheim's life and pieces from his collection. The French game pieces were part of lot 121 sold by Doyle from the Collection of Stephen Sondheim on November 14, 2014. You will receive a Certificate of Authenticity identifying the lot and sale date of the item.
