Antique French children's game from the collection of Stephen Sondheim in shadow box

It's called "Aux Quatre Coins" (Four Corners) but I can't make heads or tails of how it is supposed to be played. Nonetheless it makes an attractive display for the wall. Frame is 9"x9." We don't know if Stephen was fluent in French but he had a number of French language games. This shadow box can be displayed with or without the glass insert. The unmounted game was part of lot 121 in the Doyle sale of the Stephen Sondheim Collection on November 14, 2024.
