Antique portable Backgammon, chess, draughts set from Sondheim estate

$795.00

A rare and valuable antique. Its worth is clearly enhanced by the fact that it was owned by Stephen Sondheim. B. C. D. stands for 'Backgammon- Chess- Draughts', and the three games are combined together into the red leather tube. The B. C. D. set was first patented by Jaques in 1859. This set has some wear and bits of the leather are missing. Also, two of the pawn silhouettes are lost/damaged but all pieces are included including the bone dice and the set can still be played with as much enjoyment as it was almost 200 years ago. The tube is 8" long and 2" wide. It was sold by Doyle on November 14, 2024 as part of lot 119. It will be accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity identifying its lot date and number.
