We are offering single game pieces in individual brass and glass frames. The primary photo shows two frames side-by-side to display the front and back format of each piece. Almost 100 pieces came jumbled together in a box without any instructions or playing board etc. Judging from the content of the lithographed fronts and printed backs, the game appears to have been a French 19th century precursor to Trivial Pursuit and the old TV game show Concentration. The questions have to do with things and people and the snippets of images appear to cover the same kinds of subject matter. To give the pieces their appropriate presentation, each has been mounted in a 2-sided brass-edged glass frame with a hanging hoop at the top. The subject matter of the piece will be chosen for you. It may be a challenge to see what the piece of a larger image represents. They would make attractive decorations in various situations and certainly would be unique Christmas tree ornaments. Each has a history lesson and story to tell. The pieces show some wear and the frames are hand made and so there is variation among the frames and the closure fit of the frame can be uneven. The box of pieces was part of lot 121 sold by Doyle from the Collection of Stephen Sondheim on November 14, 2014. You will receive a Certificate of Authenticity identifying the lot and sale date of the item.
10% of the proceeds from the sale of these French game of knowledge framed pieces will be donated to PBS. Over the years, broadcasting on PBS was the only way millions of Americans could experience the productions of Stephen Sondheim. It seems fitting to support PBS at this time, in this way.
